Sarvani Gosle, 19, was rushed to the SSG Hospital for treatment. The iron window was damaged and hanging precariously on the third floor. Sources said that the iron window fell when a monkey jumped on it. Fortunately, two other girl students, who were accompanying Gosle, escaped unhurt.
At SSG Hospital, scores of students, student leaders, teachers of the faculty and university’s vigilance staff, rushed to help the girl student, who had to undergo a minor surgery after which she received seven stitches while her parents and relatives also reached the hospital.
Doctors at SSG Hospital suggest that she will be kept under observation for the next 48 hours.
The incident brought into focus the dilapidated conditions of buildings across the university campus. Most of the student leaders blamed the university’s officialdom for their lackadaisical attitude in carrying out repair works of the crumbling infrastructure at the campus.
MSU vice-chancellor professor Parimal Vyas, who expressed grief after the incident, directed the construction division to carry out a maintenance drive across the campus. Vyas has asked the division to carry out preventive measures and repair works within 15 days to fix all the old and dilapidated buildings including their beams, columns, slabs, doors and windows.
