The university in its circular issued on Monday has ordered principals of all colleges, heads of all post-graduation departments and coordinators of self-financed courses to postpone the internal examination, which was to be held on Friday. The circular was circulated through mobile phones and email to alert the officials immediately since the printed copy could have taken several days to reach them. The heads of the institutes may hold the internal examination on any suitable day later, the circular, a copy of which is with TOI, instructed.
The jurisdiction of the university is spread across the districts of central and south Gujarat up to Daman and some 1.50 lakh students are enrolled in the colleges affiliated to it. The university’s academic cycle is already delayed as per the calendar issued by the state government. “Due to changes in scheduled examination, the academic activity of the university will get further delayed,” a senior professor of a college said.
“We must observe Surgical Strike Day, but there was no need to cancel the examination. Internal marks are added to final examination results. Therefore, it is important,” said an undergraduate student.
University officials said instructions from University Grants Commission (UGC) to hold the event came recently and hence they could not announce it earlier. Further, the issue was not discussed with the heads of the institutes.
Meanwhile, the university has decided to hold events of NCC cadets along with retired army officers on its campus. Students are expected to participate in these events, an official informed.
