Hindu group supports rodents, make bridge namesake

LUDHIANA: Taking a dig at inquiry report regarding collapse of retaining wall of Gill Chowk Flyover in which rodents were seen as the reason behind the incident, members of Hindu organization Shiv Sena Punjab named the bridge as Pehalwan Chuha Pull (wrestler Rat Bridge). They have also advised MC to use rats for dismantling of buildings or other illegal structures instead of using the JCB machines for saving money. They have also demanded a state level award for these rats from local bodies minister Navjot Sidhu for their power.

The retaining wall of the flyover had collapsed on May 13 after which the bridge was closed for the movement of traffic. The MC officials since then had been blaming the rodents for collision of the bridge. An inquiry committee was constituted by deputy commissioner Pardeep Agrawal in which the additional commissioner Shena Aggrawal, executive engineer MC Rahul Gagneja, Rakesh Garg, executive engineer PWD (B&R) and executive engineer of GLADA Ranbir Singh were included.

Groups of engineers and architects have condemned the inquiry report and have also raised doubts over the same. The members of Hindu organization said they have honoured the rats by installing a statue on the flyover and naming it as Pehalwan pull.

The chairman of organization Rajeev Tandon said, “The MC officials only tried to save their skin by blaming the rats for damaging the wall. It is difficult to believe the inquiry report submitted by the committee members.”
