Dayanand Medical College to use Telemedicine to treat patients

LUDHIANA: Dayanand Medical College (DMC) has started a noble venture of telemedicine as a pilot project with its rural (at Pohir) and urban (at Shimla Puri) centers, wherein the experts will render advice to the patients in complex and challenging cases.

Telemedicine is the exchange of medical information from one location to another using electronic communication, which improves patient health status.

This will help to reduce the gap between doctors and patients. After the completion of this project, DMC will be offering its services to the far-flung areas of Punjab through NGOs and charitable hospitals. This is a first of its kind project which has been initiated by DMC.

The venture was inaugurated by Secretary of DMCH managing society, Prem Kumar Gupta. Also present on the occasion were principal Sandeep Puri, vice-principal Gurpreet Singh Wander, professor of Cardiology Bishav Mohan, Medical Supdts Sandeep Sharma and Ashwani Chaudhary, professor and head of community medicine Dr Anurag Chaudhary (who will co-ordinate the project from both the centres) and professor of Community Medicine Dr Sarit Sharma.
