CPM leader asks govt to make papers on water supply public

Coimbatore: CPM politburo member, G Ramakrishnan demanded that the state government make the contract signed with Suez Projects for water supply scheme in Coimbatore public.
Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Ramakrishnan said the government and the Coimbatore corporation were misleading the public on the drinking water supply privatisation project.

He said Coimbatore corporation has failed to clarify the apprehensions raised by the people about the multi-crore project.

“The newspaper advertisement issued by the civic body on the project was misleading and contradictory,” he said urging that the state government and corporation should stop feeding wrong information about the drinking water scheme.

Accusing the state government of crippling civil rights, he said cases were registered against those raising their voice against the government and arrested. “The eight lane green corridor from Salem to Chennai is unnecessary since there are two other highway stretches between the two places,’’ he said.
