Kenora district partnership aims to improve First Nations student housing, safety thumbnail

The Kenora District Services Board and the Windigo First Nations Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that sees them pooling their resources to build purpose-built housing accessible to students and families, said the board’s chief administrative officer, Henry Wall. It will also provide them with needed services and address safety concerns for students who travel to go to school.

The executive director of St. John Ambulance in northwestern Ontario says with rising summer air temperatures people in the region need to be mindful of overheating. Diana Sustawenko says in recent years they have been seeing an increase in calls to treat people suffering from heat stroke. Sustawenko says with outdoor events like Thunder Bay’s Blue Festival approaching, a little prevention can go a long way.
