R. Balki’s film ‘PadMan’, which stars Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in pivotal roles, has been the talking point of the entire nation due to its content which focusses on menstruation and sanitary hygiene in rural India.

According to a recent report on Boxofficeindia.com, the Akshay starrer film has collected Rs 5.75 crore on the fourth day at the box-office, taking its overall collection to Rs 45.25 crore. The film has been appreciated in the metros like most other concept films.

The film is based on a social activist from Tamil Nadu who revolutionized the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India by creating a low-cost sanitary napkin machine.

‘PadMan’ revolves around Lakshmikant Chauhan, who is concerned about his wife Gayatri’s menstrual hygiene and urges her to ditch the cloth and opt for sanitary napkins. Gayatri is reluctant to go for disposable pads as they are expensive. Lakshmi’s obsession with a ‘ladies problem’ makes Gayatri cringe but he insists on bringing a change by addressing the taboo topic. Subjected to hostility for ruffling the religious and age-old beliefs of people around, he braves the resistance and gets his point across to the others.
