Take immediate steps to repair basilica urgently, rector writes to ASI


The rector of the Basilica of Bom Jesus has sought the pressing intervention of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to take speedy steps to fix the world heritage monument earlier than the monsoon. Fr Patricio Fernandes, in a letter to the ASI and others, said that the partitions of the basilica are crumbling, and that termites are attacking the altars and statues. To add to this, the unseasonal rain final week wet its partitions, wood beams and ground, he said.
