Onion growers struggle to sell produce

Many onion growers in Challakere taluk of Chitradurga district are discovering it tough to sell their produce, as the entire markets are closed because of the lockdown. The harvested onion has been heaped on their fields, or they have got packed them in gunny baggage and saved them in stacks, in stay up for a buyer. However, there are not any consumers for their produce, as the entire markets are closed. Onion growers worry that their produce may decay, if they don't seem to be saved in the warehouses of presidency businesses. There are not any transportation amenities available in the region because of the lockdown, and they're hence helpless, mentioned Puttamma, a farmer from Gopanahalli in Challakere taluk. “Now we have spent over Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 in line with acre for cultivating onions,” she added.
