Covid-19: Varsities told to inform students about PM's appeal


NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Friday wrote to universities and colleges to apprise students and the school about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to gentle candles at nine p.m. for nine mins on April 5.


The request came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi advised people to stay indoors and switch off lighting fixtures in their properties for nine mins and remove darkness from lamps, candles, and cell flashlights at nine p.m. on Sunday to display the nation's collective spirit to defeat the coronavirus pandemic.

In the letter, UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain asked vice-chancellors of universities and principals of schools to disseminate information amongst students, faculty members, researchers, non-teaching team of workers members and others in regards to the PM's request.

The UGC also advised the heads of the institutes to percentage information about Arogya Setu cell utility. The utility is designed to inform the users about risks, perfect practices and related advisories relating the containment of Covid-19.


The letter also advised the heads to percentage information about AYUSH Ministry's guidelines on self-care that involve Ayurvedic steps like Yoga, to build a powerful defence mechanism and observe the primary of "prevention is better than cure."
