2 NE residents tortured by cops for 15 hrs


But DCP denies allegations, says passersby assaulted them, police only helped

A 25-year-old trade correspondent of a magazine and his cousin of the same age who works in the F and B division of a reputed lodge on the Old Airport Road have stated that they have been tortured via the Hennur police. They stated that that they had stepped out to shop for medicines and groceries, after they have been taken to the Hennur station via the cops and tortured for over 15 hours.

The Hennur police have denied this. Samrat Pradhan is from Darjeeling and has been a resident of Bengaluru for nearly three hundred and sixty five days. His cousin, Amit Kar, 25, is from Nagaland and has been operating in a reputed lodge for over two years. Amit Kar had an eye an infection and the 2 men had set out to shop for medicines on a motorbike.

On Monday at round 7.30 pm, Pradhan and Kar, residents at Byrathi have been stopped via a police constable and requested to turn their automobile go. When the boys stated that they didn’t have a go they usually didn’t think they needed one to shop for essentials, the cop, they are saying, saw pink. When the cousins pointed to the cop that many motorists round them didn’t have passes both, and stopped a motorist to ask her if she had a go, the constable, they allege, started caning them. “In all the crowd, we have been singled out and requested to turn our go. Some of the locals started calling us ‘coronavirus’. When we identified that a number of other people had stepped out without mask, the constable started abusing us in Kannada. I straight away took my cell phone and started filming the constable who was beating my cousin. Then the constable started beating me for filming him. He and some locals pushed me into an auto and took me to the Hennur police station. When I reached there, I saw that my cousin was already there and he have been beaten up brutally,” stated Pradhan.

The two cousins stated that the policemen allegedly took turns to cane them and requested them to delete the movies.
Pradhan stated, “I had made my thoughts to not delete the video. But I used to be unable to endure the pain and their caning. They stored abusing us in Kannada. Finally they pressured me to delete the video or even checked if there was a backup. After the video was deleted, they gave us some food. When we refused to devour, they threatened to beat us once more. Then we have been put within the lockup. Later a senior police officer came and requested us about our background. Then we have been pushed within the lockup once more. They released us round 11.30 am on Tuesday. We have been traumatised and shocked and we walked about 5 kilometres to reach our house. The police have impounded our bike which they stated we could gather after May three,” added Pradhan.

Police version
