Shooting not included in 2022 Commonwealth Games programme

BIRMINGHAM: Shooting was once ignored of the 2022 Commonwealth Games programme on Thursday, dealing a big blow to India which gained as many as 16 medals, including seven gold, at the 2018 version in Gold Coast.

The Executive Board of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) met and authorized the inclusion of girls's cricket, seaside volleyball and para table tennis into the Games programme for the Birmingham version.

"It's also a selection that could help ensure that the 2022 Commonwealth Games will be the most inclusive in history, with a potential for the largest ever para-sports programme and more female medallists than ever before, representing a great story not just for Birmingham 2022, but for women's sport in general," he added.

Last yr, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) president Raninder Singh, wanted the Indian government to boycott the 2022 Commonwealth Games if taking pictures was once dropped from the programme.

The absence of taking pictures is more likely to make a big dent into India's medals tally in the 2022 version. Indian shooters bagged 16 medals from the Gold Coast Games including seven gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze.

India has traditionally performed smartly in taking pictures which has been part of every Commonwealth Games since 1966, with the exception of the 1970 version in Edinburgh. Archery is some other sport that was once not cleared by way of the Executive Board.
