Goa approves 10% quota for economically backward

PANAJI: The state cupboard on Monday authorized 10% reservation in jobs and academic establishments for the economically weaker segment within the general class. Chief minister Pramod Sawant said that the government decision is a first of its sort within the state and will also be sure reservation for Muslims and Christians, who till date had been deprived of the benefit.

“We have authorized the regulation handed within the Parliament to provide reservation to the weaker segment of society,” Sawant instructed reporters. The leader minister said that approval was once given with out tense the present reservation.

At present there are reservations for ST, SC, OBC, individuals with incapacity, ex-serviceman and youngsters of freedom warring parties.

The Union cupboard had authorized the 10% reservation in January, qualifying those with source of revenue under Rs eight lakh consistent with annum as ‘weaker segment’.
