Varsities asked to make environment studies compulsory for UG students

BHUBANESWAR: University Grants Commission (UGC) has requested all universities to make atmosphere studies obligatory subject for undergraduate scholars of all branches.

According to the directive of Supreme Court, a direction on atmosphere sciences should be applied in any respect branches of higher schooling in India. The UGC had earlier handed directions via a large number of letters to all of the universities/establishments to compulsorily put into effect six months core module syllabus on environmental studies for undergraduate lessons in all branches of higher schooling.

In a letter issued on May 14, the UGC has directed the universities to make sure the implementation of six month core module syllabus for environmental studies for undergraduate direction in the universities or its affiliated faculties and establishments in case not applied thus far. “The process of teaching the topic be entrusted with the academics who fulfill the qualifications laid down by the UGC,” learn the letter.

The UGC also suggested the universities to create consciousness a number of the scholars for preservation of atmosphere which can go a ways for providing secure and healthy environment for future generations.

The UGC beneficial module syllabus has seven devices. First unit may have introduction to atmosphere studies, while second and 3rd unit will probably be discussing on ecosystems and natural resources (renewable and non-renewable) respectively.

They can study commonplace vegetation, insects, birds, basic ideas of identification, easy ecosystems-pond, river and other facets.

Rajani Ranjan Das, major of DR Nayapalli College Bhubaneswar, mentioned they have made this direction obligatory for sure streams of scholars. “We are taking steps to make obligatory for all streams,” he added.

A senior college professor mentioned several faculties and universities are yet to put into effect this order.
