MADURAI: A slipper that fell on the crowd that amassed to hear Makkal Needhi Maiyam president Kamal Haasan right through his public meeting in Thiruparankundram constituency on Wednesday night caused a flutter. The actor-turned-politician was once campaigning for his party candidate P Sakthivel.

Kamal began his campaign at 5pm from Thoppur, but his next meetings at four spots — Periyar Nagar, Samanatham, Panaiyur and Chinthamani — had been cancelled without prior announcement. He returned to campaign round 8pm at Villapuram where the cadres managed to assemble a big crowd. There was once a scuffle after a slipper was once hurled round eight.30pm which fell on the crowd. Soon, a bunch of fellows began shouting slogans in opposition to the actor close to his stage. Kamal appeared unperturbed by way of the motion and mentioned, “we don’t have to worry about it, they (police) will handle it,’’ and endured his speech.

Police took away about ten folks for wondering. Police sources mentioned that the slipper had only fallen into the group and not on the stage or close to Kamal Haasan.
