Sensex shoots up 623 pts as PM Modi retains power

NEW DELHI: Equity indices finished in green on Friday, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP retained power with an absolute majority in the Lok Sabha elections.

The benchmark BSE sensex soared 623.33 issues or 1.61 according to cent to close at a document prime of 39,434.72, whilst the wider NSE Nifty rose 187.05 issues or 1.60 according to cent to finish at a recent lifetime prime of 11,844.10.

During the week, which remained abuzz with news revolving across the Lok Sabha poll results, the 30-share BSE Sensex rose over 1,503 issues and the wider Nifty gained 437 issues.

Top gainers at the BSE index include ICICI Bank, Vedanta, Bharti Airtel, LT, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, SBI, M&M, Hero Motorcorp, IndusInd Bank, and Bajaj Finance surging up to five,24 according to cent. 28 out of 30 shares resulted in green.

While, NTPC and ONGC slipped up to 0.12 according to cent.

On NSE, all sub-indices resulted in green with Nifty PSU Bank and Realty surging the most, up up to five.59 according to cent.

In the wider market, small-cap and mid-cap indices outperformed the benchmark sensex. BSE Smallcap index soared 2.43 according to cent, midcap climbed 2.09 according to cent and largecap complicated 1.61 according to cent. Overall, 1,827 shares complicated and 695 declined at the BSE.

Asian shares ended blended on Friday as investors globally remained wary over the continuing trade tussle between the USA and China.
