In a first for Asia, Taiwan's parliament approves same-sex marriage


Taiwan's parliament legalised same-sex marriage on Friday in a landmark first for Asia as the federal government survived a last-minute try by way of conservatives to go a watered-down version. The island's lawmakers with ease passed a law permitting same-sex couples to shape "exclusive permanent unions" and a second clause that would allow them to apply for a "marriage registration" with govt companies.
