Six drown in canal in Tamil Nadu


NAMAKKAL: Six other people, including two girls and 3 kids, drowned in a canal near Paramathi-Velur in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

The deceased had been identified as Okay Saravanan, 45, of Pothanur and his wife Jothimani, 38, his twin sons Dharakesh, 10 and Deebesh, 10, Jothimani’s buddy Devishree, 37, and Devishree’s daughter Ashvika, 8.


A total of seven other people, including Saravanan’s brother Dhanasekaran’s son Rohith, went to take tub in the canal which used to be constructed for Tamil Nadu Paper Limited (TNPL) at Pugalur in Karur district. The canal originates from the Cauvery river.


Except Rohith, all others entered the canal. They had been stuck in the strong currents and began drowning.


Rohit alerted his father, who rushed to the spot with fellow villagers.


The Paramathi-Velur police additionally reached the spot with fire and rescue products and services team of workers. They controlled to retrieve five our bodies, aside from that of Ashvika. Efforts had been directly to fish out Ashvika's frame.


The police registered a case.
