Received no monetary benefit from MI: Sachin to Ombudsman


NEW DELHI: Legendary Sachin Tendulkar has categorically refuted all allegations of Conflict of Interest levelled against him as he claimed to have neither "received any compensation" nor retaining any decision making function in the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians.

Tendulkar on Sunday filed a 14-point written response to a notice sent by means of Ombudsman cum Ethics Officer Justice (Retd) DK Jain. It used to be relating to a Conflict of Interest complaint filed by means of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) member Sanjeev Gupta.


As per the complainant, Tendulkar and Laxman are allegedly appearing twin roles, first of a "support staff" of their respective IPL franchises Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and 2nd as individuals of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC).

"At the outset, the Noticee (Tendulkar) denies the contents of the Complaint in totality (except the statements specifically admitted herein). No part of the Complaint should be deemed to be admitted by the Noticee for lack of specific denials," Tendulkar wrote in his response which is in possession of PTI.

Since Gupta's proceedings harped in particular on Tendulkar's function in the MI, the long-lasting cricketer in his response have made a full disclosure of his function in the franchise.

"The Noticee (Tendulkar) has received no pecuniary benefit/ reimbursement from the Mumbai Indians IPL Franchise in his capability because the Mumbai Indians 'ICON' since his retirement, and is on no account hired with the Franchise in any capability.

"He does now not occupy any place, nor has he taken any decision (including collection of team players) which might qualify as being in governance or control of the Franchise. Accordingly, there is not any struggle of hobby, either underneath the BCCI Rules or otherwise," international's main run-getter further explained.

As a ways as his function in the CAC is concerned, Tendulkar discussed that he used to be appointed as a member of the BCCI committee in 2015, which used to be most effective years after his involvement with the MI.

"The Noticee used to be appointed to the panel of the Cricket Advisory Committee ("CAC") in the year 2015. Tendulkar, in his disclosure, further makes it transparent that the function of an icon -- the one he is appearing right now in the IPL franchise team -- on no account is a place either in the control or the governance of the franchise.

"The Complaint wrongly assumes that the Noticee's association with the Mumbai Indians IPL Franchise (“Franchise”) is in the capacity of "governance", "control" or "employment" - thereby attracting a struggle underneath Rule 38 (four).

"His function is proscribed to providing steerage to the Franchise team by means of sharing his insights, learnings and working closely with the more youthful individuals in the team to lend a hand them realise their true potential."

On his respond to Gupta's query of him sitting in the team's 'dugout' -- place specified for players and enhance group of workers most effective -- he termed the allegation as "absurd".


"A mentor cannot be qualified as "management" of the Franchise. If the Complainant's absurd good judgment had been to be implemented, a physiotherapist, teacher or a masseur would also be qualified as "management" of the Franchise," Tendulkar replied, making it transparent that he's answerable to not one of the enhance group of workers.

Meanwhile, VVS Laxman has agreed to step down from the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) in order to continue with his function in the Sunrisers Hyderabad control team.
