Panel to probe sexual abuse of women inmates


MUZAFFARPUR: Muzaffarpur DM Alok Ranjan Ghosh has arrange a five-member committee for inquiring into alleged sexual harassment of a girl and her daughter who had been lodged at Shahid Khudi Ram Bose Central Jail here. Ghosh took the initiative following a directive from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

“The inquiry group has been asked to submit its file inside per week,” said the DM. The committee contains ICDS DPO Lalita Kumari, Musahari CDPO Manju Kumari, DPM of Women Development Corporation Md Gaus Ali Haidar, Purnima Kumari (adviser of ladies helpline) and Pratibha Sinha (senior ADM, establishment).


The girl, her daughter and husband had been arrested via the Muzaffarpur police on September 27, 2018 from Ahiyapur for his or her alleged involvement in a flesh industry racket. The trio had been launched on bail on March 26 this year. Soon after her free up, the girl wrote a letter to the PMO on March 28, alleging that the prison superintendent ceaselessly used to sexually harass women prisoners. She additionally forwarded a copy of her letter to the State Women Commission, leader minister’s office and IG (jail).


This is not the primary time that Muzaffarpur prison government have hit the headlines for wrong reasons. Earlier, they got here under scanner for uploading an image of a felony lodged in prison to social media platforms. Even a police file indicated that notorious gangsters and Maoists had been using cellphones to run their gangs from the prison.


“The author of the prison would ceaselessly inquire from me to head via the dictates of prison government. They even compelled me to ship my daughter to prison officials. Whenever I refused, they used to overcome us with bamboo sticks with the assistance of four women constables – Rinku, Archana 1 & II and Nitu,” the letter reads.


The girl alleged that she fainted on March 4 this year after Archana thrashed her mercilessly for refusing to ship her daughter to the prison superintendent’s area.


However, prison superintendent Rajiv Kumar Singh has denied all of the allegations. IG (jail) Mithilesh Mishara said he has asked the Muzaffarpur DM to seem into the topic.
