Man falls into 15-ft pit dug for road work, dies


CHENNAI: A 43-year-old guy died after he fell right into a 15-foot deep pit dug on the Chennai - Kolkata National freeway at Gummidipoondi for building of a bridge on Thursday evening.

Police mentioned, Kaathan, a resident of Panapakkam village near Gummidipoondi at Tiruvallur was once working at a non-public factory in Ambattur Industrial property.


Since the paintings was once on, the workers had erected a realize board to divert the cars but there were no barricades to stop the cars. Kaathan, who failed to notice the board fell into the pit, along side the bike.

When the workers returned for paintings on Friday morning they found Kaathan mendacity dead throughout the pit on the freeway. His two-wheeler was once found atop his frame. His frame was once sent to the Ponneri Government sanatorium for autopsy.


Preliminary investigations printed that, Kaathan was once returning home from the Kavaraipettai railway station on his motorbike.


When he was once near the old Kavaraipettai police station on the nationwide freeway, about 300 meters previous the diversion board he plunged into the pit along side the bike. He sustained head injuries within the fall and died.


Meanwhile, his wife lodged a lacking criticism on the police station on Thursday evening after the person did not respond to repeated phone calls. Police mentioned, his house was once just a kilometer away from the pit in which he had fallen.


The Kavaraipettai police registered a case of accidental death and are also questioning a few employees, who failed to put the barricades.
