LS: Upstaged, BJP MP hits discordant note


NEW DELHI: Punjabi Sufi singer Hans Raj Hans filed his nomination from North West Delhi on Tuesday after a prolonged drama that saw sitting MP Udit Raj threatening to contest as an Independent.

While BJP leaders claimed that the singer have been given the go forward to record his papers on Monday evening itself, the celebration made a formal announcement just a few hours ahead of the time limit to record nominations was once set to lapse.


Raj claimed that Delhi BJP leaders had confident him that he will get the price ticket even if sources said that Hans’ candidature have been finalised at least two days ago. But the lengthen in officially saying Hans’ candidature gave credence to rumours that BJP was once reconsidering its determination.

Party officials rubbished the claims. “Hans had even resigned from the put up of vice chairperson of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis on Monday. He had amassed his symbol letter from the celebration administrative center late Monday evening,” said a senior BJP leader. Hans had contested for the Jalandhar seat in Punjab in the 2009 General Election on a Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) price ticket. He joined BJP in 2016.

Unhappy at being denied the price ticket, Raj posted a number of tweets on Tuesday morning pronouncing that he was once going to mention “goodbye” to the BJP and record his nomination as an Independent. But he changed his thoughts in the afternoon.

“I will be able to now not contest as an Independent. They (BJP) are forcing me to go away the celebration but I have now not taken a decision on quitting. I will be able to consult my supporters around the nation,” he said.


Raj said he was once shocked at being denied the price ticket in spite of being adjudged the best parliamentarian and having the best comments from his constituency in internal BJP surveys. “When there was once bandh in 2018 on SC-ST Act amendment, I protested. That’s why the celebration leadership gave the impression to be unhappy with me. I additionally welcomed the SC judgment on the Sabrimala issue that also turns out to have angered the leadership. When there was once no govt recruitment happening, was once I now not supposed to boost the issue? I will be able to continue to boost the problems of Dalits,” said Raj, who defeated Congress’s Krishna Tirath in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.


Raj additionally said that a few months ago, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had instructed him that he wouldn’t be given a price ticket. “Showing faith in Modi, we had merged our celebration (Indian Justice Party) with BJP. Why am I being punished?” he said.


On the intervening night time of Monday and Tuesday, supporters of Raj had protested at the Delhi BJP administrative center.
