‘Frequent power failures hit micro, job work firms’


Coimbatore: Representatives from micro and small companies within the district say over the last one week there have been unannounced energy cuts a number of instances a day seriously affecting their function and manufacturing.

“For the previous week, there have been frequent unannounced energy interruptions for 15min or 30min, totalling 2-Four hours a day. This has caused distress to micro companies and task work companies,” district representatives of the Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Micro Enterprises (TACT) said.


“Due to energy cuts, machines stop unexpectedly. In the case of CNC machines, equipment get broken when work stops in a halfway, which results in jobs being rejected,” district president of TACT J James said.


In addition to this, now and then, the three-phase energy provide is being switched to two-phase. “The machines work best in three-phase and because of this the manufacturing is being hit,” said James. Micro and small companies in areas akin to Edayarpalayam, Saibaba Colony, Kavundampalayam, Ganapathi, Ondipudur and Chinniyampalayam had been facing the problem, he said.


“If there's prior details about those energy cuts, we can plan our work accordingly and save the losses,” he added.
