DMK man held for distributing money to voters


COIMBATORE: The city police arrested a DMK functionary from Kuniyamuthur for distributing money to voters on Sunday.

The DMK functionary, N Varadharajan, 50, of Dhal Factory Street at Kuniyamuthur, was booked below sections 171 E and 294 (b) of the Indian Penal Code.


N Abubackar,43, resident of Ganga Nagar at Kuniyamuthur and member of AIADMK, discovered DMK individuals allegedly distributing money to voters at Raju Naicker Thottam. When puzzled, Varadharajan threatened Abubackar.

Abubackar lodged a grievance with the Kuniyamuthur (regulation & order) police who registered a case towards Varadharajan and arrested him. Police seized Rs 19,200 in money from him. Later, Varadharajan was let off below the station bail.

Meanwhile, the agricultural police registered a case towards a Congress functionary for sending four girls to assemble details of voters at Ramachettipalayam to bribe them.

R Natarajan, 53, an AIADMK member and a realtor from Ramachettipalayam, lodged a grievance with the Perur police on Sunday.


Around five.30pm on Saturday, Natarajan discovered four unidentified girls collecting details of voters in each and every family in his house.


On wondering, the women stated they were sent by way of former Congress councillor Murugesan of Sundakkamuthur to assemble details of voters at Ramachettipalayam to distribute money.


Based on Natarajan’s grievance, the Perur police registered a case towards Murugesan and 4 girls below sections 171 (B) learn with 171 (E) of the Indian Penal Code and further investigation is on.
