Despite HC no, PWD spent Rs13.99cr on fibre speed breakers

Nagpur: The state executive’s public works department spent Rs 13.99 crore for putting in fibre velocity breakers at 23 other roads around the city. The department published this ahead of the state information commission, while replying to a RTI question filed by common secretary of Maharashtra Youth Congress Ajit Singh.
Singh is running from pillar to submit to get information on fibre velocity breakers being installed at many places on city roads. He had filed RTI programs with NMC and PWD, looking for details of value, provider agencies. “Until not too long ago, both the federal government agencies refused to offer any information or tried to offer misleading information,” he stated.

Though NMC has no longer given any information yet, PWD not too long ago submitted the main points after Singh moved the state information commission. PWD stated they'd installed fibre velocity breakers even after the prime court had directed executive agencies to apply Indian Road Congress (IRC) norms while constructing velocity bumps.

PWD ahead of the state information commission admitted it had spent Rs 13.99 crore for putting in these velocity breakers. The roads where it had installed fibre-based speedbreakers included outdated railway feeder street (Pardi-Bagadganj street) and Military street, close to BSNL Office (Palace Road), 5 other spots in Civil Lines, Sadar Bazar street, TV Tower square, Police Lake street, Chhaoni Chowk and many others.

Executive Engineer PWD J H Bhanuse admitted ahead of the state information commission that no permission was once sought from the site visitors police.

As in step with rule, nod of District Road Safety Committee headed by chairman and district collector is a will have to. PWD blatantly overlooked the norms of Indian Road Congress-99 and spent taxpayers’ money to erect unauthorised velocity breakers. After a up to date prime court order, NMC removed fibre velocity breakers, nonetheless there are many roads in the city where these may also be discovered. There also are no warning forums installed.

Now, Singh is making plans to move Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court against the state PWD to get better money spent on erecting unauthorized velocity breakers from officers accountable.
