Cross-LoC trade resumes after a 2-week hiatus

SRINAGAR: Trade resumed between Poonch in Jammu & Kashmir and Rawalakot in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Tuesday with 35 vans every crossing into either town around the Line of Control (LoC).

Trade and trip had been suspended on April 1 after heavy shelling by Pakistan around the LoC that claimed 3 lives in Poonch — a BSF officer, a lady, and a five-year-old woman.

The cross-LoC trade and trip between the 2 countries began in 2005 and 2006 after several parleys between the 2 international locations. However, those have been periodically suspended on many occasions because of flare-u.s.along the border or terror moves by Pakistani-based operatives inside India.

The vans carried items like walnuts, dry dates, almonds, embroidery items, herbs, and potatoes officials said.
