Civic body orders probe on JE's case against mayor

CHANDIGARH: The municipal corporation (MC) has despatched a criticism of a junior engineer against mayor Rajesh Kumar alias Kalia to the UT administration for inquiry.

Junior engineer Suresh Chand posted with building and roads wing of the engineering division in February alleged the mayor had threatened to transfer him after he refused to hold out "personal work" at his space. "The mayor asked me to get painting and distempering carried out at his house. When I refused to do so, as the work cost more than Rs 2 lakh, he threatened to transfer me," Chand had mentioned in his criticism to the MC commissioner.

The MC has now not discovered any officer appropriate or competent to initiate the probe against the mayor. The move to send the case to UT has come following consultations with it a few days again. "We first tried to start something on our end. But since the allegations were in writing and of serious nature, we were not liable to probe the matter. We discussed the issue with the UT. Now, we have prepared a file and sent it to it to take a call on the matter," mentioned a senior officer of the MC. Sources mentioned the inquiry officer should call each the events to record the statements. In this case, not one of the MC officers was appropriate to name the mayor to record his commentary.
