Bharathiar University research scholar gets overseas fellowship


COIMBATORE: M Kasipandi, a PhD research pupil at Bharathiar University, has been selected for the award of a 12-month ‘Overseas Visiting Doctoral Fellowship’ provided by means of the Science and Engineering Research Board, underneath the dep. of science and technology, Government of India.


Kasipandi has been working underneath the guidance of professor T Parimelazhagan, a free up from the university mentioned.


Under the programme, Kasipandi would be working on the Laser Research Centre, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Johannesburg, South Africa, underneath the host manager Professor Heidi Abrahamse from University of Johannesburg. He is one among the 40 selected applicants from across the country, it added.


The matter of Kasipandi’s research is ‘development of novel drug targeting aptamer (Cell-SELEX) for handing over cytotoxic agent kaempferol (natural flavonol) to inhibit pancreatic tumor cell growth’. The collaboration is expected to offer vital outcomes as it could give a systematic idea to improve the drug targeting gadget for non-toxic anticancer compounds, the release mentioned. The research can be utilized in the analysis of pancreatic cancer, it added.
