All ten colleges of Mafsu get ICAR accreditation

Nagpur: All the ten constituent faculties underneath the Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (Mafsu) have got the accreditation for five years from the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), making them eligible for a grant of over Rs10-15 crore yearly.
Mafsu is the largest veterinary and fishery sciences university in the country with 10 faculties. Other state universities have simply 2-Three faculties underneath them. Of the 10 faculties in the state, the Mumbai and Nagpur Veterinary Colleges have gained ‘A+’ grade whilst the Shirwal Veterinary College in Satara district has got ‘A’ grade. Others have got B grade.

Mafsu VC Ashish Paturkar said this is for the first time that all the 10 faculties in the state have got ICAR accreditation. “Until final yr, we have now most effective five faculties which had the ICAR accreditation and that too for 2 years. This have been hampering the development work of the colleges. But with the accreditation of all faculties the money would come steadily for five years,” he said.

He additional said the university has been operating arduous for the final six months to rectify all the deficiencies of body of workers, infrastructure and so forth to get the accreditation. “We have employed non-technical body of workers on contractual foundation and filled different technical posts which was a big lacuna in getting accreditation,” said Paturkar.

Mafsu has bought a cumulative rating of two.88 out of 4.0 which is far better than the other agricultural universities underneath ICAR. The inspection for the accreditation was executed by means of ICAR in November 2018 but accreditation procedure was not on time because of late meeting of the accreditation board.

Paturkar said the accreditation will even benefit the scholars who can get scholarships, internship budget and different grants for specific faculties for research. “Every faculty will get roughly Rs50 lakh to Rs1 crore. Besides this, the ICAR also provides separate budget for giant tasks run by means of teachers,” he said.

Mafsu’s Dean of college and director of instruction N N Zade instructed NewsTread that this accreditation would also assist in getting post-graduation seats for the colleges. Nagpur Veterinary College particularly will benefit as it's got a rating of 3.51 with A+grade, he said.
