A few good men to save Delhi’s green lungs

NEW DELHI: Irked via the inaction of the forest department in adding more staff, the National Green Tribunal has rapped Delhi’s forest department for no longer complying with its 2015 directions and requested the state leader secretary to furnish a contemporary report at the matter inside a month.
A bench headed via NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel stated the preservation and conservation of forests in Delhi required good enough staff power, which were missing in Delhi executive’s forest department for some time, making it tough to protect the natural world.

“According to the candidates, the above directions have no longer been complied with and the results is that preservation and conservation of forests in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, which requires good enough staff power and finding out of other operation difficulties, is not conceivable,” the bench observed.

The tribunal was once listening to a petition filed via Delhi resident Aditya N Prasad, inquiring for action against the Delhi forest department for non-enforcement of the sooner NGT order and for suitably appointing field staff to maintain timber in the capital. Earlier this month, the fairway bench had rapped the state executive, the income department and the forest department for failing to demarcate Delhi’s Southern Ridge on time. It had also summoned officials from every department, inquiring for the reasons at the back of the delay in completing the work.

“The income department shall give a complete detail with regard to the khasra number; the entire area and the date when such allotments have been made. It shall also show as as to if correct approval, based on the law, for allotment of forest land were received or no longer,” the bench had observed.

It had also warned that in case of failure to arrange a complete and correct map ahead of the following date, it might cross coercive orders against officials of the income department.
