33 mn flyers used KIA in 2018-19


BENGALURU: Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) confirmed a 23.8% year-on-year expansion in passenger site visitors in 2018-19. A record 33.3 million passengers used the airport, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) officials stated on Monday.


In all, 240,251 landings and takeoffs had been recorded during the duration, with 750 landings and takeoffs being the best (January 11, 2019). The maximum passengers treated in in the future was 109,174 — on January 20, 2019. In 2017-18, KIA treated 26.9 million flyers.


BIAL officials stated domestic site visitors continued to be the primary expansion driver in 2018-19 when 28.8 million domestic passengers used the airport — a 24.8% expansion when in comparison to the previous fiscal, which saw 23.09 million domestic passengers. As for international passengers, four.48 million travelled to and from global destinations in 2018-19, registering a expansion of 17.five% over 2017-18 when the whole number stood at 3.81 million.


Hari Marar, MD and CEO, BIAL stated, “To give a boost to the growth, we have now presented initiatives corresponding to fully-automated self-bag-drop machines, enabling passengers to complete baggage check-in in beneath 45 seconds and the sensible safety lane with automated tray-retrieval gadget.
