Screening for non-infectious diseases to go on till March 31

BHUBANESWAR: The state health and family welfare division has made up our minds to continue population-based screening for non-communicable illnesses such as cervical, oral and breast cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure in the state until March 31.
The programme that kicked off from March 1 throughout number one health centres, district headquarters medical institution and other sub centres targets to cover the population above 30 years in the state. The screening is being carried on without spending a dime.

"The screening of diseases has been done through camps in sub-centres located in seven districts through trained staff at the primary health centres," stated an reliable of the health division.

He stated the target is to cover no less than 50 in line with cent of the population elderly above 30 years or extra in the state. "Such population-based screening started in five districts in 2017, now it has been expanded to the entire state," the reliable stated.

Sources stated Asha staff have been trained and provided the equipment for screening of non-communicable illnesses. The health division has provided virtual glucometer for screening of Type I and Type II diabetes.

Similarly, virtual blood pressure tools were provided to the workers for screening of high blood pressure whilst for cervical, oral and breast cancer, the health providers are carrying out detailed examinations of the folks.

The programme is being performed below the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancers, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS). "The screening is being done for free. Anyone can come and avail the service," stated the reliable.

It can be noted right here that the health division was carrying out institutional-based screening earlier, but since 2017, the officials are carrying out population-based screening for greater coverage of sufferers.

According to studies, ladies cancer sufferers in the state estimated to over 53 in line with cent of overall cancer instances in opposition to 47 in line with cent men in the previous couple of years.
