Rs 224crore worth smart city projects inaugurated


Coimbatore: As there is not any position for recreation within the town, urban lakes are being revamped and evolved to include recreational facets like the ones on Marina Beach in Chennai, minister for municipal administration S P Velumani stated right here on Saturday.
The minister was speaking after laying basis stone for smart town tasks. He inaugurated tasks to the track of Rs 224.10crore.

Under the tasks, Periyakulam bund can be bolstered and the lake can be rejuvenated at a cost of Rs 62.17crore. The Selva Chintamani lake bund can be bolstered and rejuvenation paintings can be carried out at a cost of Rs 31.47crore. A multi-level car parking facility can be constructed on DB Road at RS Puram at a cost of Rs 40.78crore. LED streetlights can be installed at a cost of Rs 74.70crore. Underground drainage can be constructed at Sivaram Nagar at a cost of Rs 14.98crore.


Development works were initiated in 11 cities out of the 12, that have been decided on under the smart town challenge in Tamil Nadu, Velumani stated.


The civic frame had floated tenders for rejuvenation and beautification of three lakes within the town in January. In that spherical, bidders have been only in Periyakulam. Subsequently, the corporation floated another delicate two weeks in the past, in which bidders expressed hobby in Selva Chintamani lake. The civic frame is planning to waft another delicate for rejuvenation and beautification of Valankulam.


The corporation had floated delicate for the multi-level car parking facility on DB Road last December for the 3rd time. The facility, to come back up on a space of 11,600square, can accommodate greater than 370 four-wheelers at a time.
