Nagpur Congress protest for waiving off OCW penalty


NAGPUR: City Congress on Saturday gheraoed municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar and staged protest in opposition to the BJP-ruled Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for waiving off penalty imposed on Orange City Water (OCW) Pvt Ltd and diverting mortgage quantity kept for cement roads to repay the formers’ dues.
TOI was once the first to reveal how the NMC’s standing committee proposed to divert Rs50 crore out of Rs200 crore mortgage taken for finishing cement road works to clear dues of OCW. Now, the proposal licensed by means of the standing committee will come for dialogue on the whole body meeting scheduled for March five.

City Congress president Vikas Thakre, who led the protest, stated that the verdict to waive off penalty of Rs62 crore on OCW was once wrongful. “Penalty was once slapped on OCW for not appointing international mavens, not pleasing terms and prerequisites of settlement,” he identified in a memorandum submitted to the municipal commissioner.

“The normal body will approve extension of 24X7 Water Supply Project, which was once to be finished by means of March 1, 2017, by means of 18 months, giving a good thing about Rs34 crore to OCW,” Thakre stated.


He further stated, “NMC normal body licensed mortgage of Rs200 crore for development initiatives. Accordingly, mortgage was once taken. Now, decision has been taken to present Rs50 crore to OCW from mortgage which is in opposition to norms.”


The city Congress activists additionally raised the issue of voters getting water bills before the commissioner who confident to look into their call for.


“If the NMC ignores our morcha, we will be able to intensify the agitation in opposition to OCW,” Thakre stated.
