Mistaken identity: Rowdy stabs woman in Kasimedu

CHENNAI: In a case of improper id, a history-sheeter stabbed a girl in Kasimedu within the wee hours of Friday taking her for the girl who had refused to sell him liquor. While the victim, 46-year-old Mallika, is improving at a government health facility, police registered a case and are in search of the suspect, Sridhar.

A police officer said Mallika, who works in a private corporate, used to be staying as a paying guest at a space in Indira Nagar, Kasimedu. Her roommate Jayanthi used to be into promoting liquor illegally. After being warned by police, Jayanthi had lately stopped promoting liquor, the officer said.

Around 11.30pm on Thursday, two accomplices of Sridhar got here to the home in the hunt for liquor but Jayanthi despatched them back saying there used to be strict police vigil within the neighbourhood. The two went back and informed Sridhar. Around 1am on Friday, Mallika heard the calling bell at her space, opened the door and found two males status before her. One of them, history sheeter Sridhar, used to be inebriated and took her for Jayanthi. Berating her for sending back his two accomplices empty-handed previous, Sridhar angain demanded liquor. As Mallika stood there uncomprehending, he pulled out a knife, stabbed her within the abdomen, the officer said.
