Lucknow: Man duped of Rs 3.25L by FB friend

LUCKNOW: A businessman used to be duped of Rs 3.25 lakh through a woman posing to be a rich Malaysian philanthropist through Facebook. The incident used to be reported to the cybercell on Friday.
The complainant, Satendra Singh of Kalyanpur, told police he had gained a chum request on Facebook from one Hapsa Nadia Dafun in October. The two was friends over time and in December, Dafun sent him a message stating that her husband had died.

"She said her husband had wanted to donate $70,000 (Rs 48 lakh) to Indians and she wanted me to handover the money to people here," Singh mentioned.

Dafun mentioned the deal could be finalised through her husband's corporate GTP, primarily based in UK.

"A company representative emailed me and took my address and bank details. On December 10, he called me up and asked me to deposit Rs 3 lakh in a government bank in New Delhi for getting custom clearance for dollars. I paid the money as directed," Singh mentioned. Till January, he got no answer from GTP and aksed Dafun who told him to inquire from the company.

"When I wrote to GTP, they asked me to pay Rs 25,000 more to get the Rs 48 lakh and I did so," Singh mentioned.

Ten days later, Dafun unfriended him and Singh then reported the topic to the police. Cybercell in fee Abhay Mishra mentioned a case had been registered.
