Kullu man held with charas worth Rs 10L

CHANDIGARH: The crime branch has arrested a Kullu resident with four.400 kg charas from city on Friday. The police have claimed that the seized charas has a marketplace worth of over Rs 10 lakh.

According to the police, the accused, recognized as Anoop Ram, 32, paintings as a taxi driver and smuggle charas from Himachal Pradesh regularly to Jammu and Chandigarh. He was additionally arrested in 2018 by way of the Mandi Police who had booked him beneath NDPS Act for possessing 886gm charas and spent 40 days in prison in January 2018.

Sukhraj Katewa, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), crime, said that the accused is from Godighat village in Kullu.

According to the DSP, the crime branch team had laid a naka near Mullanpur barrier and was checking automobiles on Friday at round midday. They had stopped the car that the accused was riding on suspicion. When they started to question the accused, he suddenly tried to escape with the vehicle. But, because the naka was absolutely barricaded, he was no longer able to escape. The police nabbed him. While looking his vehicle, the police recovered a white colour bag which held four.400kg charas.

DSP said that right through interrogation, the accused had revealed that he was to ship the drugs near bus stand at Sector 17.

In the final six days, crime branch has arrested six drug peddlers with heroin, cocaine and opium from different portions of town. The accused were lodged in the Burail prison.
