Fire rages in Pennagaram forest division

DHARMAPURI: A fireplace that broke out within the Pennagaram wooded area division right here within the early hours of Friday has put wooded area officers in a difficult position, with flames spreading fast because of heavy wind.

According to the wooded area officers, the hearth, which began at 'Koil Pallam' house, has spread to a distance of 5km. They have evacuated the villagers within reach to a more secure house.

"Huge tracts of forest area devasted in the fire," mentioned a senior wooded area officer without going into extra details. Talking to TOI, he mentioned the hearth used to be spreading fast because of heavy wind they usually were discovering it tough to carry it below control.

He mentioned the hearth used to be first noticed via native villagers, who alerted the wooded area group of workers and the Pennagaram police. Subsequently, fireplace and rescue products and services group of workers from Pennagaram and Dharmapuri fireplace stations were deployed to put out the flames.

"The hill area is shrouded by thick smock. Dried trees and dry leaves are igniting the fire," the officer mentioned.

Pointing out that they were busy getting rid of dry leaves close to roads as a safety measure, a forester mentioned, "Due to manpower shortage, controlling forest fire is not an easy task. We will bring the situation under control at the earliest."

Forest officers have, meanwhile, banned tribals from venturing into the wooded area house to gather wooden logs.
