Essence of Constitution cannot be changed, says former Supreme Court judge


MYSURU: Retired pass judgement on of the Supreme Court Justice Shivaraj V Patil on Saturday said that, whilst a central authority with a majority within the Parliament could introduce amendments to the Constitution, the essence and function of the code of regulations could now not be tampered with. Justice Patil, who delivered the Sri Ok Puttaswamy Memorial Endowment Lecture on ‘Indian Constitution: Dynamics’ at an tournament organised through the Vidyavardhaka Law College, said, “The Preamble, basic rights and duties, the the directive ideas of the Constitution can't be altered. People should now not learn Constitution as a textbook. They should cling discussions at the textual content to realize it better.”


Youngsters should learn about the story of the fight for India’s freedom to know the importance of independence. “We are failing in imposing the Constitution. It is incumbent on us to ensure that we adhere to the Constitution for the advance of the country,” he said.
