On Thursday, a 58-year-old man sprung a surprise on the docs at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital when he mentioned he had swallowed two gold rings to avoid wasting them from robbers. Doctors got rid of the rings from Joydeb Jaiswal’s stomach on Friday, six weeks after he swallowed the objects.

The Goabagan resident was once travelling house through Saraighat Express on January 23, when a gang of robbers struck between New Jalpaiguri and Kishangunj. The scrap broker was once travelling from Guwahati, the place he went on trade.

Once Jaiswal reached Kolkata, he consulted a physician, who instructed him not to worry as gold would now not purpose any infection. The physician mentioned the rings would pass along with his stool. But when the rings did not come out even after over 5 weeks, the physician instructed that an X-ray of the abdomen be performed. The file showed the rings lodged in his stomach. By then, Jaiswal had started feeling ache and determined to consult with the RG Kar OPD.
