Dhoni overtakes Rohit to hit most sixes for India in ODIs


NEW DELHI: Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been drawing flak for his gradual batting for moderately a while and there are debates whether or not his batting skills are at the wane. But the Indian wicket-keeper is not perturbed in any respect from the complaint and let his bat do the talking as he now owns the record of hitting maximum sixes (216) for India in ODI cricket.

Playing his 336th ODI for India (339th overall), Dhoni overtook opener Rohit Sharma's tally (215 in 202 ODIs) in the first ODI of the five-match sequence against Australia on the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday. Dhoni hit the Aussie pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile over long-on for max to succeed in the feat.


Dhoni, who scored his 71st ODI fifty, remained unbeaten on 59 off 72 balls in India's six-wicket win over Australia.


The 37-year-old Dhoni has 223 sixes to his title in ODIs but his seven sixes came in three matches he played for Asia XI.


Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar is third at the checklist with 195 sixes from 463 ODIs forward of former skipper Sourav Ganguly, who hit 189 sixes in 308 one-day matches for India . The 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh takes the 5th position with 153 sixes from 301 matches adopted by way of Virender Sehwag's 131 sixes in 241 ODIs.
