Chennai Metro's 118.9km phase 2 maps released

CHENNAI: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) on Saturday officially released maps of its formidable 118.9km phase-2 venture that will attach far-flung suburban areas with the core localities of town thru three corridors.

CMRL has released two maps- one of the crucial 52km corridor - (Madhavaram to CMBT and from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur linking the eastern part of town including the IT hub at OMR), and the other of the entire phase with three corridors. Construction work for the 52km corridor will start sooner than the top of this year. It incorporates 128 stations.

The three corridors of the phase include Madhavaram to Sipcot, Lighthouse to Poonamallee and Madhavaram to Sholinganallur. The estimated price of the venture is Rs 69,000 crore.

While several changes have been made to the alignment and to the names of the stations, one of the crucial corridors initially deliberate to hyperlink localities from Lighthouse to CMBT used to be later prolonged up to Poonamallee to hyperlink high passenger visitors areas like Porur and Iyyapanthangal.

At present, the soil take a look at is underway for the 52km corridor and a 10km corridor - from Lighthouse to Vadapalani.

Compared to the 45km phase-1, phase-2 can have smaller stations to cut down price and land required for development.
