Banned drug seized at Trichy airport

TRICHY: Customs officers at Trichy International Airport seized 10 kilograms of banned drug methaqualone from a passenger who about to board a Kuala Lumpur bound Air Asia AK 24 flight all the way through the morning hours.

According to the official resources, in accordance with a tip-off, the customs government had carried out the operation.

They have seized the contraband approximately worth over Rs 2.50 crore, from a passenger who has been recognized as A Arokiyaswamy, 53, a native of Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district, resources from the airport said. He had tried to smuggle the drug concealing in his luggage.

Subsequently, the customs officers passed over the banned drug to the government of Narcotics Control Bureau and the passenger was arrested.
