2 OSAP jawans killed in Jharsuguda accident


Two jawans were killed and 29 injured when a police van carrying the jawans of Odisha Special Armed Police (OSAP) collided with a goods truck close to Belpahar on NH -49 in Jharsuguda district on Friday morning.

The two deceased were known as havildar Shankar Prasad Panth, 45 and trainee Prasant Behera, 23, of OSAP’s 3rd battalion, Gajapati. Among the injured, 14 were taken to TRL Hospital, Belpahar, while the others were admitted to Central Hospital, Brajrajnagar. Later seven essential jawans were shifted to Vimsar, Burla.


Police stated the car, carrying 28 trainee jawans and three havildars of OSAP’s 2nd battalion, met with the twist of fate at 6.30am while they were going to Banharpalli for deployment on the leader minister’s programme on Friday.


After getting information, police rushed to the spot and sent the injured to the health facility. Traffic motion on the NH was once affected because of the mishap.


Meanwhile, leader minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the loss of life of 2 jawans and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved families. He also ordered loose treatment of the injured jawans. Subsequently, the CM introduced ex gratia of Rs five lakh every and a government task to probably the most members of the family of the 2 deceased. Naveen also declared Rs 1 lakh compensation for the injured jawans. tnn
