Villagers seek protection from Chinna Thambi

Tirupur: Employees of the Amaravathi Co-operative Sugar Mills and residents of Krishnapuram on Wednesday asked authorities to force wild elephant Chinna Thambi clear of the residential area.

Labour Progressive Federation and Anna Tholizhalar Peravai despatched petitions to chief minister Edappadi Ok Palaniswami in regards to the factor. “For the closing two years, the mill could now not produce sugar because of drought. Thanks to good rain, we have been expecting good production in April. But the presence of Chinna Thambi is affecting the ambience as staff and the villagers concern that untoward incidents may occur,” secretary of LPF P Mahalingam said. “The mill used to be taking steps in sugarcane seed multiplication process in the farm, the place the elephant is camping and destructive plants.”

Meanwhile, animal husbandry minister Ok Radhakrishnan, who visited the realm, said govt is considering the steps to be taken deter Chinna Thambi. tnn
