WASHINGTON: Flooded with telephone calls from panic-stricken scholars, an eminent Indian American legal professional on Tuesday alleged that Department of Homeland Security knowingly allowed the "fake university" to be set up and misled scholars sitting masses of miles away in a foreign country.

A day after the State Department blamed Indian scholars for the mass detention and possible deportation from the USA for enrolling themselves in a pretend college set up via the Department of Homeland Security, California-based immigration legal professional Anu Peshawaria said that the undercover operation has devastating consequences for hundred of Indian scholars.

"We are not announcing that our scholars are not at fault. They will have to have done their due diligence prior to signing up. If they're perpetrating crime knowingly, they will have to be punished but if they're trapped or encouraged to commit the crime then we wish to assist them,” Peshawaria said.

As in line with closing week's figures supplied via the USA Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as many as 130 of the 600 scholars from the faux University of Farmington were detained closing week. Of these 129 were Indians.

Many of them since then have been released or put below limited motion. Several of them have left the rustic.

Peshawaria said that some scholars are worried that they are going to have arrest on their document for ever and feature misplaced years of schooling to no avail.

"They might be possible blackmail for the remainder of their lives. What is sudden is that the college was once registered with the schooling board that authorizes the issuance of I-20s to scholars, which in turn is authorized via the Department of Homeland Security," she said.

"Department of Homeland Security knowingly allowed the 'faux college' to be set up and misled scholars sitting masses of miles away in a foreign country,” she said noting that her administrative center has been receiving numerous calls from panic-stricken buddies and households of a lot of Indian scholars which might result in mass deportation.

Worse, these scholars, based on their authorized i-20s even got driver licenses from the USA Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). This simplest added another stamp of authenticity to the credentials of the college, she asserted.

Many scholars travelled to fulfill the Dean of the University, which has now been closed, a lot of them requested for classes curriculum, she said.

"Given that authorities knew this was a set-up, they should have stopped the students there and then. If they wanted to catch the perpetrators what right do, they have to defraud innocent lives," Peshawaria said.

"In fact, during this time the government also enjoyed taxes that these consultants paid. Now, they cannot suddenly wake up and decide to put all these people behind bars," Peshawaria added.

Many scholars have huge loans to pay, she said based on her interaction with these scholars. They were saving up to ship to their households in a small village in India, she said adding that they're devastated.

"It is all easy to mention that scholars knew what they were doing, did everyone knows all of the laws after we moved to United States that they will have to get such harsh punishment,” she requested.

"We are all fighting to unlock the students straight away. The scholars are calling me that US government is forcing them to self deport however they would like back their levels and misplaced time and repayment for pain and anguish," Peshawaria asserted.
