Two youths held for extortion


COIMBATORE: The Singanallur police workforce on Monday night time arrested 2 youths for extorting cash from a device engineer at knifepoint.
The arrested folks have been known as A Abbas, 19, of Karunanidhi Nagar at SIHS Colony and M Ashok, 23, of Bharathi Nagar. Police seized a knife from the duo.

Police said 35-year-old Venkatesh, a native of Theni district, used to be working in an IT company in Chennai. A few days back, he came to Coimbatore town to attend an interview in Lakshmi Mills area. After the interview, he used to be going to Singanallur bus stand to board a bus to Theni district.


While he used to be going to the bus stand’s backside round 10:30am to attend nature’s name, the duo threatened him with knifepoint, snatched Rs 200 and forcibly took him on a motorbike for extortion.


Singanallur police workforce, who have been carrying out their regular car check, stopped the bike. Immediately, Venkatesh advised the workforce that he used to be kidnapped by the duo at knifepoint for extortion.


Subsequently, the police took the duo to Singanallur police station. After grilling them for some time, the duo confessed to the crime. They have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
