TN: Man poses as tax officer, dupes traders, held

CHENNAI: Police arrested a man posing as a commercial tax officer for threatening and extorting money from investors at Sowcarpet and Kothavalchavadi areas.

Gopal, 61, a resident of Villivakkam, used to be nabbed by means of police when he approached Ramesh, who runs a plastic items wholesale store, at Aathiappan Street in Kothavalchavadi on Saturday. The investors, on suspicion, informed the Kothavalchavadi police station.

When police inquired, Ramesh informed that he used to be a retired commercial tax officer. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the suspect had previous cheated different investors within the neighbourhood.

Gopal had worked as an assistant to a commercial tax officer, and retired three years in the past. Since then, Gopal roamed round focused on shops and investors at Anderson Street, Malaiya Perumal Street and different areas difficult bribe from them. As other folks had seen him at the side of a tax officer, they didn't suspect the fraud.
