TN: Doctor fined Rs 85K for medical negligence


MADURAI: District client disputes redressal discussion board (DCDRF), Madurai, has directed a doctor in a personal medical institution to pay Rs 85,000 as damages to a lady for clinical negligence.

J Surya Mary of Madurai used to be a minor when she filed a criticism towards the medical institution. She approached Dr Sundara Rajan of Chandra Bai medical institution in April 2009 to be treated for her throat an infection. According to the criticism, the physician directed a group of workers nurse to manage an injection and accordingly, the nurse injected it at the bottom. However, the woman suffered serious ache after the injection used to be administered. After the injection, the woman noticed a wound. Later the wound got infected.


She approached the physician once more. The physician told her that an operation had to be performed.


Despite two minor and one primary operations by the similar physician, the wound used to be no longer healed, and the an infection spread to other spaces. Subsequently, she got treated in any other medical institution and used to be cured.


The petitioner moved the patron discussion board searching for a repayment of Rs1 lakh from the physician for clinical negligence. After perusing the submissions made, the DCDRF dominated in favour of the victim and directed the physician to compensate a sum of Rs 85,000 to the girl for the psychological and bodily agony she underwent.
