CHENNAI: A five-month-old male tiger cub (in %) on the Vandalur Zoo does now not have a name—simplest as it has now not but got leader minister E K Palaniswami’s appointment for the naming ceremony. The cub, deserted by way of its mother Uthra a day after its start in September 2018, is being hand-reared by way of the zookeepers.

The link between Palaniswami and naming of cub at Asia’s greatest zoo dates again to September 2010, when then leader minister M Karunanidhi, for the primary time, visited the zoo and named a male and two feminine tiger cubs Sembian, Indra and Valli respectively. His successor Jayalalithaa followed his footsteps by way of naming two white tiger cubs Rama and Chandra after her political mentor M G Ramachandran. She had named 17 animals on the zoo, together with tiger and lion cubs.

In October 2017, Palaniswami, all over his maiden discuss with to the zoo as leader minister, named an Eight-month-old lion cub Vishnu. Later, in July 2018, he named a female lion cub Jaya, showing his loyalty to his political mentor Jayalalithaa. Sembian and Jaya now reply to their names.

A zookeeper on condition of anonymity said naming animals early is important to train them, in a different way they've to whistle or call out loudly to get their consideration until they are named.
